The Ark Hotel Information

The Ark is known as a "tree hotel", built on pilons in such a way as not to disturb the animals around the waterhole. It comprises three decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide superb vantage points for game viewing.

Location:
Located in the heart of Aberdare National Park, Kenya.

Areas Served:
Kenya

Restaurants:

  • Main Dining Room: Located on 'C' Deck, off the Bar, the Main Dining Room is softly lit with long tables and offers a superb view of the dense forest. The Table d'hôte menu is combination of European and Kenyan dishes, made from an abundance of fresh Kenyan produce.
  • Lounge & Bar: Located on 'C' Deck, the Lounge has a fireplace which is lit from the afternoon until late evening. Comfortable leather sofas surround the fireplace and the glass walls, while the bar sports leather-padded stools.

Recreation:
  • Game Viewing: Located in front of the resort, the Yasabara waterhole and salt-lick is frequented by great numbers of animals, elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, bushbuck, besides other rare creatures such as the suni, and genet cat. The Ark comprises three decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide superb vantage points for game viewing. A ground level bunker provides excellent photographic opportunities, taking guests even closer to the animals.
  • The Catwalk: The catwalk is a useful place to observe both animals and birds, and is a pleasant place to walk. Birds are fed here every evening at 5:00 p.m. Guests are not allowed beyond the gate.
  • Aberdare National Park: So as to conserve and protect the environment, few people are allowed to visit this park, home to elephant, rhino, buffalo, bushbuck, giant forest hog, Sykes monkey and leopard. Numerous scenic tours can be arranged for you.

Airport Information:
16 km from Mweiga airfield, one-hour drive from Nyeri airstrip and a two-hour drive from Nanyuki airstrip.
